Why I Do What I Do

Therapy and antidepressants didn’t work for me.

I started antidepressants in middle school after my boyfriend at the time died, and continued until I finally came to realize (around the age of 35) that they weren’t working for me and never had.

I had a deeper desire and drive to find something that worked. I tried many different approaches, including tarot readers, acupuncture and all types of healing methods — from EMDR, EFT, reiki to hypnotherapy. After each, I started feeling small shifts that kept leading me to the next thing. I was guided by my intuition, even though I didn’t realize it at the time.

I kept finding myself running into various healers and I always wanted to try whatever they did in hopes of digging deeper. Eventually, my healers and tarot readers started to tell me that I myself was a healer. For many years I had no idea what that meant or what it meant for me, until about six years ago at a seemingly random moment, the word “shaman” came to me. I had seen a shaman once before and it wasn’t the one for me, but I stayed curious.

Finding the source

Where did this “shaman” message come from? Myself, or an outside source? My higher self? God? I still don’t really know, but I do know that I am now able to connect to and channel higher knowledge and wisdom. At the time, I just didn’t realize this, and I also wasn’t sure if that meant I was a shaman in a past life, that I would be one in this life, or whether that meant I needed to find one to work with or learn from.

It took me a few years before I finally found the first layer of this message and I ended up finding my first Shamanic teachers. My teachers do not call themselves shaman and nor do I, but they have studied with Shaman all over the world. Shaman who don’t call themselves shaman either, but practice ancient energetic healing techniques, work with plant medicines, create healing artwork, sing healing songs and regularly work in ceremony to tap into altered states of consciousness to receive messages from the divine.

This work has changed my life and given it meaning. I wasn’t raised with religion, but this work requires an ability to tap into the divine wisdom of the universe, intuition, channeling source energy, reading energy, tapping into the messages of the earth, the universe and the animal kingdom. I have acquired these skills in my training — rather I feel like it was more a remembering of these skills rather than a learning. “Uncovering” might be the better way to phrase it.

Through my training, I have received so many healings, I can’t count the number, but the transformation has been gradual and profound. This work is cumulative and there are many layers that begin to take shape, which eventually lead to huge realizations. The work began with me and my traumas, wounds and insecurities. After a year or two, I started to notice our collective commonalities and wounding that we perpetuate by living in our society. I have realized that all of the rules, regulations, and expectations that we are taught (or enforced), might not necessarily be in our best interest. This is also known as the awakening process, the “veils” come off and you can start to see the world as it really is.

When people say “the veil is thin,” they are usually referring to a sense of being in a place or moment where you can sense the world without all of the programming.

Breaking down barriers

The work that I do essentially helps people unlearn the blocks and/or traumas that might be in the way of helping us to become the highest version of ourselves. In doing so, people begin to release the baggage of living in this world. We start to notice the things we do that were taught to us, but not in alignment with their truth or best interest. We begin to understand how to read signs from the universe, listen to its intuition, follow our hearts, and step into their true personal power, joy, love and optimal health.

I use channeled healing songs, feathers, crystals, and tobacco to tap into divine wisdom. I do this for guidance and messages. I receive visions of where the energetic blocks are, and I work to clear them. I open and align the chakras and energetic centers. This work is transformational, inspiring, gentle, and ultimately works on a soul, energetic and spiritual level. Keep in mind that this work can shift ancestral wounding as well.
